I’m curious to know how many people are actually paying for tickets…

  1. Many people have a monthly card that costs 30€ and is unlimited for said month so that’s why you do not see many people buying tickets. However in Line 1 (Green) inspections are rather rare and you have to be extremely unlucky to find an inspector since the inspector not only needs to happen to come to your train but also has to come to your specific carriage, so most of the time you won’t need a ticket for Line 1. In buses and the other metro lines (especially in stations like Monastiraki, Syntagma, Omonia and the Terminal Stations) a ticket is needed because inspections are more common.

    1. Thanks for the comment! My thinking was that with the open gates like in Athens, how many people would be honest enough to pay. Yes, I’ve only encountered inspections in the center as well…
