It’s not that I cannot swim, but I was afraid of swimming in the sea where my feet don’t touch the bottom. I still fear open water where I cannot see the bottom.
It’s fairly normal in Japan for an adult to use a swim ring in swimming pools and in the sea (not because they cannot swim, but to relax on the water).

Maybe you should consider buying an air mattress. It is used by adults, mostly in swimming pools though. Swim rings are not popular here…

Sometimes I would like to have one but everyone will automatically assume that I cannot swim.
